Church of Saints Simon and Jude facade restoration
They were just removed the scaffolding that, from mid-October covering part of Church of Saints Simon and Jude facade in St. Simon square, one of the most beautiful places of the historical Florence center. Located close to Piazza Santa Croce, Saints Simon and Jude church is currently frequented by Ukrainian Catholic community and his face plastered with a beautiful portal in stone and a lunette is well known not only to the Florentines, but also to many tourists. Restoration conclusion will enable everyone to look with renewed interest in the church facade with its elegant portal and the beautiful affresco depicting the Madonna with Saints Simon and Jude. The lunette is decorated with affresco by Nicodemo Ferrucci ( Fiesole 1574-1650 ) and the stone portal with column carved with elegant motifs to garlands and masks is probably attributable to the architect Gherardo Silvani. The intervention is an indispensable contribution to our heritage preservation and even a small contribution to interesting corner of the city discovery.
